Learn about peptides

A plain-English guide to the peptide and small-molecule categories in our catalog — what each one is, in simple terms, and what it has been studied for in laboratory and clinical research. This page describes research, not medical advice: nothing here is a claim that any compound diagnoses, treats, cures or prevents a condition, and all products are sold for research use only.

First, the basics

What is a peptide?

A peptide is a short chain of amino acids — the same building blocks that make up proteins, just far fewer of them. Where a protein might be hundreds of amino acids long, most research peptides are somewhere between 3 and 40. That short length is what lets scientists make them synthetically and study them precisely: a specific sequence interacting with a specific receptor or pathway in the body.

Most of what's below is supplied as a freeze-dried (lyophilized) powder in a sealed vial, reconstituted with bacteriostatic water before use in a lab setting — see the reconstitution calculator for the math. A few compounds on this page aren't peptides at all — small molecules like NAD+ or methylene blue — but they're studied in the same categories and are grouped here the same way. Every lot we publish has a certificate of analysis; a lot still in testing shows as pending until its report is in.
